Embassy of India in association with the Indian Cultural Centre celebrated the 80th Independence Day of day of India, on 15th August 2026 in the ICC premises.

The celebration was attended by the Chargé d'Affaires to the State of Qatar Mr. Sandeep Kumar. First Secretaries Mr. Eish Singhal, Mr. Harish Pandey and other officials of the Embassy of India, Presidents of apex bodies, community leaders and a large number of Indian community members.

The ceremony commenced with a rendition of Vande Mataram. Chargé d'Affaires Mr. Sandeep Kumar hoisted the Indian flag on this occasion. It was followed by the national anthem of India. Mr. A.P. Manikantan, President of ICC, welcomed the guests and dignitaries followed by the opening remarks from ICC Vice President Mr. Shantanu Deshpande.

A floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi was offered by the Chargé d'Affaires, commemorating the Father of the Nation. Mr. Sandeep Kumar was felicitated by the presidents of the apex bodies — Mr. A.P. Manikantan (ICC), Mr. Shanavas Bava (ICBF), Mr. E.P. Abdurahiman (ISC), and Mr. Thaha Muhammed (IBPC). In his speech, Chargé d'Affaires Mr. Sandeep Kumar relayed the message by the President of India.

Cultural programs were carried out to celebrate this occasion. As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the Top 10 performers from Qatar in the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz Competition were felicitated. The winners of the Painting Competition, organised as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, were also felicitated on the occasion.

Mr. Abraham Joseph, General Secretary of ICC, conveyed a Vote of thanks. The event was seamlessly hosted by Ms. Aafrin.
